Starting a New Zealand tradition
Thursday 21st November New Zealand Made Day
Being First
Being first is hard… because it might not work. If it fails you might look silly. You might waste resources. You might have made a promise that you can’t keep. Some of the best things got started small and organically with people who wanted to say they were first. The first people to be part of new things enjoy new things because…. well, they’re new things. There’s a status with being first.
The First iPhone Buyer In The World
Greg Packer was the first person in the world to buy an iPhone on June 29th, 2007 because he queued for four days outside the Glass Cube Apple store in New York city. He desired the privilege and bragging rights of being first and was willing to wait for it. There have been plenty of iPhone launches since then, but all eyes were on that first one. What would it offer, what would it change, who would buy it?
The First Sneaker For Entrepreneurs
When Gary Vaynerchuck launched the K Swiss GV001 sneaker on November 14 2017, it was unheard of for a businessman to launch his own sneaker! 600 pairs sold out to those who saw him as a visionary leader in marketing and entrepreneurship. Gary just launched his fifth K Swiss GV005 sneaker a few weeks back.
The First Singles Day For Shoppers in China
Men at Chinese universities created a day in the 1990's celebrating being single. In 2009, Alibaba capitalised on the day by launching the first shopping event on that day, offering heavy discounts on its Tmall shopping platform. Just a decade later on November 11th 2019, sales across Alibaba’s various sales platforms reached 213.5 billion yuan or nearly $30 billion USD… in a single day.
Many New Zealand exporters are in the China market to ensure their products can take advantage of the explosion in cross border ecommerce.
